This Months Tip: When laying new tile, it is possible to go over the existing tile by off-setting the new tile by an inch or so, so that the seams do not overlap. Tearing up the old tile? If you are applying the new tile to concrete, make sure to patch any rough spots with a pre-mixed concrete patch - then let set for at least 2-3 days before laying tile. Want to put down a new sub-floor? Make sure you get the proper type of plywood, made especially for floors. If not, your floor could develop "craters" where the tile is laying over knots and imperfections. If laying vinyl tile squares, make sure to stand the tiles on edge for at least 24 hours before putting down. The weight of laying them flat will cause the tiles to expand, and then they will shrink again once they have been put down.
